This gem of a cottage is set in the heart of the historic quarter of the capital of Oranjestad.
It has undergone a complete restoration which was finished in 2002. It dates back to 1798 – a swashbuckling time when the Caribbean was filled with mutinous fleets from all around the world fighting over Caribbean island pearls!
The Dutch won out here and this gorgeous island of St Eustatius, or Statia as its known, is now home to an eclectic mix of islanders and expats.
The property consists of:
The beautiful white vaulted ceiling soars above this room to its apex, lending it a feeling of grandeur and calm. All the doors are wood panelled, with gingerbread fanlights, decorative mouldings and fretwork adorn the walls and the polished wooden floor through out, finishes the room off perfectly.
Comfortably furnished with sofa and a hand picked selection of antique pieces complete the room.
The family kitchen has a cathedral ceiling – allowing the hot air from cooking to rise up and to make the room feel spacious and airy. It features the original chimney breast but fortunately the kitchen is now fitted with all modern appliances including stove, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher and is fully stocked with all tableware and cookware.
The large island has a double sink and good preparation space.
Original paned French doors open on to the garden.
The dining room is wood paneled and has a cooling terracotta tile floor. Currently set up with Dining Table and chairs for 4.
1 bedroom is furnished with an antique brass queen and the other is set up as a twin room for guests. Both have A/C and fans, antique furniture and original wooden floors.
2 bathrooms are fitted with WC, showers, wash basins and a good amount of storage.
The property has a history of short term rentals through VRBO and has received excellent 5 star reviews.
